The adidas Stan Smith was born in the early 60s and became one of the brand's most popular models, becoming part of adidas' history. However, they were not always a popular model.
Do you want to know the history of this model? Come from there
The history of adidas Stan Smith begins in the 60s, as already mentioned, when Horst Dassler , son of one of the brand's founders, aimed to create a revolutionary product. Until then, all tennis (sports) shoes were made with a canvas upper, but its creator wanted to go further and develop the first pair in leather, with a white sole and a synthetic midsole.
However, they did not always have this name, “Stan Smith”. At the time of its launch, the brand wanted the sneakers to be associated with the world of tennis, and nothing better than associating them with a great player of the time, Robert Haillet, thus calling themselves “adidas Robert Haillet ”. These adidas quickly became players' favorite model.
A few years after its launch, in 1971, the tennis player retired from the world of tennis. adidas then needed to associate the model with another great player. It was then that Donald Dell suggested one of his clients, an American champion, named Stan Smith to Dassler .
From tennis courts to casual fashion
In the 1980s, Stan Smith technology began to develop and sneakers began to lose popularity on tennis courts. However, they began to make a name for themselves in the fashion world, as they were extremely versatile, making them perfect for combining with any outfit .
To give you an idea, in 1994 more than 23 million pairs had already been sold worldwide.
At the beginning of the 21st century, adidas launched the Stan Smith II. This was the version with a thicker tongue, more padding in the heel and no portrait of the tennis player.
In 2011, this model had a bombastic return, as it was sought after by big names in fashion. However, that same year, the brand wanted a change, and therefore, between 2012 and 2013, adidas Stan Smiths were not produced. Of course this was a genius marketing move. The brand knew that removing this model from the market at a time when it was most sought after would create a desire and even a need in the consumer.
In January 2014, the model went into production again. To create more buzz for the relaunch of the Stan Smith, many celebrities received personalized sneakers.
It is impossible to deny the impact this model had on the world of fashion and shoe lovers. They are a must have in any collection because, in addition to being comfortable, they are sneakers that can be combined with literally any outfit .
